A new mod for Fallout 4 has arrived, and it’s a nice nod to the series history, overhauling the visuals to please long-time fans.
One of the biggest complaints levelled at Fallout 4 was the dramatic change to the visual style, taking away certain colour tones that gave the wasteland so much character.
Blasted Commonwealth Overhaul sets out to change only the visuals, leaving the core game intact.
Only available for PC players, those stepping into the wasteland after installing this mod will notice a radical change as the style is more akin to Fallout 3.

The creator of the mod notes, “The trees are scorched, the branches are few, and the green tint is back.”
That greenish tint was key to the visual flair of Fallout 3, as it made everything seem more irradiated, and generally enhanced the lighting of the game.
This is something the mod’s creator wanted to achieve here, by adjusting the lighting within Fallout 4 to “Experience Fallout 3's wasteland feel.”
Roads and pavement have a much darker look to them, and the lighting has been tweaked to showcase better shadows.

It completely changes the landscape, without impacting the pre-built assets from Bethesda, and it should play nicely with other mods.
There’s a note on the Blasted Commonwealth Overhaul mod page that this will be more taxing on a player's PC as it requires a higher performance than the base game.
As it’s quite new, there are only a few notes made by players, but both are positive, showing that fans really wanted to see this style make a comeback.
“I've been looking for a mod like this for ages,” said one player.

Of course, this is just one of thousands of mods that revitalises the RPG, and if you’re thinking of jumping in for a new playthrough it might be worth installing this for a fresh experience.
