If someone told me that Half-Life 2 is playable on a smartwatch, I don't know what I'd say. It's happened with DOOM, it could happen with anything.

Half-Life 2 is widely considered to be one of the great video games of all time, as reflected by its 96 Metacritic score. When it was first released on PC in 2004, I remember gamers specifically buying/building a system just to play the highly anticipated sequel from Valve.

However, despite being released over 20 years ago, there seems to be no official sign that Half-Life 3 is on the way.

Despite it being set up in Half-Life 2, it also featured in its two DLC chapters (not including Episode Three, which was never released). Understandably, many fans have long given up hope that it will ever be released.

That being said, rumours have been claiming that Half-Life 3 will be a launch title for the new Steam Machine, and if there was ever a platform seller, it would be the game to complete Valve’s numbered trilogy.

To this day, Half-Life 2 is an incredibly fun game. It looks and plays great, not to mention its dystopian story still holds up today. Even when playing the game on Xbox Series X/S via backwards compatibility, it’s aged like a fine wine.

Redditor Installs Half-Life 2 on a Smartwatch

Yes, that’s right, you can play Half-Life 2 on a Smartwatch, as demonstrated by Reddit user Dramatic-Shape5574. Believe it or not, there is a simple explanation for how this is all possible.

In a video upload, we see the opening moments where G-Man tells protagonist Gordon Freeman to “Rise and shine” before we venture into City 17.

I’m not sure how enjoyable Half-Life 2 is on a Smartwatch with its very small screen and likely questionable touch-screen controls, but it's impressive nonetheless.

How Can You Play Half-Life 2 on a Smartwatch?

That’s simple, Dramatic-Shape5574 explained that it’s possible through NVIDIA’s GeForce Now streaming service.

All you have to do is ensure that the Smartwatch is connected to the internet. Visit the GeForce Now website. “Struggle” through the UI and ads, and then Half-Life 2 should be good to go.

Hopefully, the rumours regarding Half-Life 3 are true, and if Valve ever makes that announcement official, we’ll be sure to update you right away.
