The arrival of the second season of Prime videos Fallout adaptation has done wonders for the popularity of the franchise once again boosting player numbers on all the existing games and renewing interest in the future of the series.
As part of that, the community has been speculating on the potential of new releases that we might get to put our grubby little paws on over the next year to 18 months.
Much of that speculation related to the idea that both Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are long overdue some kind of refresh, either in the form of a remaster or a remake, which can bring both experiences firmly into the modern day.
Now, it has emerged that both may well be real, if new information from sources close to the project are to be believed.
New Vegas and Fallout 3 Remasters Are Coming, But Not Yet

As first reported by Windows Central, both Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are set to get remasters, though the mysterious counter on the official website, which is timed to coincide with the end of season 2 of the show, is apparently unrelated.
That news comes from Jez Corden, Who claims sources close to the developer have confirmed that The games will take a similar approach to the recent Oblivion remaster.
“we are eventually getting a Fallout 3 remake in the vein of Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, as well as Fallout: New Vegas on top,” Corden claimed
The sad news for us players is that almost nothing is known about what the games will look like when we do finally get our hands on them, with details extremely thin on the ground other than the fact that they are in production.
Obsidian entertainment supposedly have four projects in active development at the moment, and the return of Tim Cain might be a not so subtle signal that they are the chosen developer for the New Vegas remaster.
Todd Howard has also been notably complimentary towards them in recent months, which might be laying the groundwork for a wider announcement.
All of that leaves the exciting question of what the timer is related to, given that these rumours put pay to any chance of a shadow drop of one of those two games.
As disappointing as it is that we likely aren’t getting a shadow drop, it's not the end of the world (see what I did there) and it might mean that we're getting something even more exciting, though I have my doubts.
