Fallout 3 could be the next game Bethesda remakes following the success of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered.
The third Fallout game doesn’t get as much credit as it should, after all it was the game that plunged the series into true 3D.
While visually it’s not much to look at nowadays it doesn’t look all that bad, and gameplay wise it’s the classic Fallout experience fans claim to know and love, with a decent story to boot.
It was quickly overshadowed by Fallout: New Vegas which is perfectly understandable as Obsidian Entertainment cooked with its narrative, location and side content. We really shouldn’t forget Fallout 3 though, and thankfully it seems like Bethesda isn’t.

Fans will no doubt remember the Microsoft V FTC trial and the leaks that followed it. We got a look at Xbox’s plans for future hardware as well as some new games in the pipeline. During the proceedings plans for a remake of both Oblivion and Fallout 3 surfaced.
Well we’ve had Oblivion Remastered, so it’s more than likely we’re getting Fallout 3 Remastered too, it just hasn’t been announced yet.
This is supported by rumours that Bethesda is working on multiple Fallout games, not just a remaster of the third one, so something related to Fallout: New Vegas could be on the cards too.
The fans are pretty confident it’s going to go ahead, especially after the leaks behind Oblivion Remastered were confirmed to be true.

That said we do need to take things with a pinch of salt as just because a Fallout 3 remake was planned during the FTC trial, doesn’t mean it’s still going ahead now. The project could have easily been cancelled and given Xbox’s track-record that’s definitely a possibility.
With the second season of the Fallout TV series coming later this year and officially taking us back to New Vegas, a remaster of Obsidian Entertainment’s game would make more sense, and probably have more appeal too.
Even if Xbox greenlit a Fallout 3 Remaster and slapped it on Xbox Game Pass like it did with the Oblivion one doesn’t mean it’ll be a runaway success, especially following the criticism the company has faced for raising the price of its subscription service.
For the time being, it’s relatively safe to assume a Fallout 3 remake is still on the way, but until we get official confirmation from Xbox we’ll be tempering our expectations slightly.
