Earlier this week saw Bethesda reveal the worst-kept secret in gaming history: that its 2006 The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion has finally received a much-needed remaster.

Not only that but it was set to launch that very same day.

As a result, players are returning to Cyrodiil or heading there for the first time to experience one of the best RPGs of all time but with The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered now pushing the boundaries of graphics and performance thanks to Unreal Engine 5, some players are stumbling across some issues.

We were all eager for Oblivion to keep some of the “issues” the original had such as wild glitches, unedited dialogue, and bizarre events but one thing we did not want was performance issues.

Unfortunately, some PC players have revealed that they have been running into performance issues such as bad stuttering and FPS drops.

However, one user over on r/oblivion has seemingly found a way to combat this thanks to a few minor tweaks.

“Oblivion Remastered performance guide - I went from unplayable stutters to stable 80+ FPS in the open world,” they shared.

“Like a lot of other people the game ran fine until I exited the sewers and then it became nearly unplayable with the lag and stuttering, but I fixed it and realized there's a few optimization bugs that you can avoid that cause it.”

The user revealed that their PC setup consists of an “i9-9900KF 3.60GHz, RTX 3060, 16GB RAM”, with the game “installed on my SSD and not my hard drive.”

However, their main tip is that if you wish to change Oblivion’s settings, make sure you restart your game and change them from the main menu and not in the game itself.

This, for some reason, causes issues and helps a lot with instability.

Additionally, they suggest adjusting the majority of settings (again, from the main menu) and you can find their full list of changes on their original Reddit post.

This includes turning off motion blur and v-sync, putting it on Fullscreen, and making the Frame Limit uncapped, to name a few.

Hopefully these minor changes will make Oblivion Remastered run a lot smoother for you if you play on PC.
