Bethesda boss Todd Howard has confirmed that Fallout 5 will be Bethesda Game Studio's next big RPG after The Elder Scrolls VI, which probably means we'll see it by around 2048.

Howard previously confirmed that Bethesda would properly focus on The Elder Scrolls VI, which is currently in "pre-production", after Starfield launches. The ambitious sci-fi RPG is currently slated to release in the first half of 2023, after a delay pushed it out of its original November 2022 slot.

Take a look at Starfield in action below!

Obviously The Elder Scrolls VI doesn't have anything close to a release window at this point, which makes it even harder to pin down when Fallout 5 might finally arrive. Still, Howard's comments remind us that Bethesda is far from finished with the popular post-apocalyptic series.

"Yes, Elder Scrolls VI is in pre-production and, you know, we’re going to be doing Fallout 5 after that, so our slate’s pretty full going forward for a while," Howard told IGN. "We have some other projects that we look at from time to time as well."

Howard previously revealed to IGN that Bethesda already has an idea for Fallout 5. "Fallout's really part of our DNA here," he explained. "We've worked with other [developers] from time to time – I can't say say what's gonna happen. You know, we have a one-pager on Fallout 5, what we want to do."

Exactly what big ideas Bethesda has for the next Fallout game remain to be seen. Personally, I hope the studio is looking at the excellent total conversion mod Fallout London for some inspiration on how to create a Fallout game that's as familiar as it is genuinely surprising.

For now, fans of Bethesda's RPGs can look forward to Starfield. Given the upcoming game is bragging about having 1,000 open planets to explore, it's likely to keep us plenty busy while we wait for Fallout 5 anyway.
