BioShock Meets Firewatch In New Steam Game You Can Try Free

Watch out for ice

There are so many inspirations in this new narrative survival experience, and all of them are such good games, this can only end up brilliant, right?

Coming to Steam, with console players also able to get their hands on the game, Arctic Awakening is going to win over any Firewatch fans, and if you head over to the Steam page, you’ll find a free demo to try out.

That wonderful adventure took us through a gorgeous environment, telling its story in pieces throughout, conjuring a sense of place and tone that is unforgettable.

If Arctic Awakening can get even halfway to that, it’s going to be a truly special game.

Playing as the survivor of a plane crash, you wake up in a frozen landscape, faced with dangers and uncertainty.

It’s a quest for survival, and while you feel alone, you’re actually accompanied by your “court-mandated therapy bot,” who will provide a narrative drive.

Mixing an unknown world with some unexpected technological advancements, there’s a taste of BioShock here, but look deeper and several games come to mind.

The frozen land is reminiscent of the lingering fear from John Carpenter’s The Thing, while the survival aspect seems pulled straight from the likes of The Long Dark.

With robotic companion, Alfie, in tow, it’s time to find your co-pilot after the crash.

You were supposed to be dropping off supplies to an Alaskan town on a routine trip, but a storm blew in, bringing you back to Earth.

Fans of spooky games will want to check this out, as the developer, GoldFire Studios, hints that ‘something’ cut your plane in half, and lingers in the shadows and darkness.

Hidden underground structure, filled with all kinds of technology, paint a dystopian picture bursting with mystery.

Arctic Awakening is due for release on 18 September, but you can try it now on Steam.
