BioShock gets huge PC overhaul you can try for free, as BioShock 4 wait continues

As gamers continue to wait for the mythical BioShock 4, a fresh PC port should keep them occupied if they’re brave enough to try it.

News on BioShock 4 is practically non-existent, as every day of silence convinces us further that it’s going to be cancelled. Either that or it’s on the lowest level of development hell.

Fortunately, the first three games are all readily available on modern platforms, and are still worth a replay in the big 2026. That said, we can guarantee you’ve never experienced the first BioShock game like this before…

BioShock’s Rapture gets dramatic overhaul that makes it scarier than ever

Modder Mohamad Balouza has created a new VR mod for BioShock that gets you closer to the Big Daddies than ever before.

It’s still a work-in-progress at the time of writing, but a video showcase by NotAGameAddict will let you see the mod in action.

Players must swing their arms around to use melee weapons and carefully line up their shots when using a gun, all while Rapture’s hostile enemies get right up in your face. It’s scary enough to get overwhelmed in the base game, even more so when VR lets them get as close as possible.

About nine minutes in, you get to see the infamous first-appearance of the Big Daddy, when it tears apart an unfortunate soul with its enormous drill. It’s quite a sight from this more immersive perspective.

If you’re eager to try it out for yourself, you should be glad to hear that it’s available now. The video by NotAGameAddict was captured on a Meta Quest 3 through Virtual Desktop, but it’s said to function with the Steam Link and “any other OpenXR headset” too.

A copy of BioShock Remastered will be required in order to get it working. An original copy of the game won’t do.

Fans tuning into the YouTube video were pleased to see the results, with one comment reading: “Great work. I can't wait for a full release. It's been a big wish to play it in VR. The game is made for it.”

It’s unclear whether a similar PC mode is in the works for BioShock 2 or BioShock Infinite, though the latter feels like it’d run really well in VR.

Despite not being an official mode, this is probably the best BioShock content you’re going to get until either BioShock 4 comes out or the Netflix film, whichever one comes first.

What we know about BioShock 4

Details on the next game have been all over the place, but in terms of setting, it sounds like the game will still take place in an Arctic base.

The game has reportedly had several re-writes and members of the development team have come and gone.

We don’t know what the current vision of the game looks like, and at this rate, it wouldn’t be a surprise to hear it’s been scrapped entirely.
