Fallout 5 May Be Set in New Orleans, According to a New Tease

Not a bad shout

The actual release date for the next game in the Fallout series is likely still a while away, with The Elder Scrolls VI ahead of it in the schedule for Bethesda Entertainment, given that it's been a decade and a half since Skyrim dropped.

Recent developments confirmed that parent company Microsoft has given Bethesda the green light to ramp into full production on the game, but we're likely years away from a full release for the highly anticipated sequel.

That said, the release of the Prime Video adaptation has undoubtedly generated a spectacular amount of new interest in the franchise, so speculation is already beginning to ramp up around what the next game is going to be like.

That includes a potential new setting, with the community weighing in on what they'd like to see, as well as those who were formerly close to the development of the games.

Former Fallout Dev Wants New Orleans Game and it Does Sound Pretty Cool

In an interview with PCGamesN, former developer on Fallout 3 and 4 and lead artist on Fallout 76 Nathan Purkeypile weighed in on what he'd like to see next for the single player series.

"I've always wanted to see what Fallout would be like in the Deep South. We'd had plenty of other areas like the East Coast and the West Coast, but that's something that hasn't been touched on, and it also has a lot of culture and interesting places to visit. Fallout 5 in New Orleans? I mean, that would get my vote for sure," Purkeypile said.

Given that we've seen plenty of the coastal regions in Fallout, it would be interesting to see more of the areas that were perhaps less affected by the nuclear barrage of 2077.

West Virginia was a fun window into that potential future in Fallout 76, but heading to a new location like that in a massive single-player RPG would be a new proposition entirely. We could also get an additional layer of interesting lore if they continue the trend of each game being set later than the last, with the show already as far in the future as we have been.

With so long to go before we actually get to see the game, speculation about Fallout 5 is only likely to ramp up further.

I'm personally hoping that the success of Fallout: London has shown the potential of taking the franchise to new shores, though that's a bit of a pipe dream at this point.
