One of the most highly anticipated games in the years to come is Bethesda’s next entry in its post-apocalyptic RPG series, Fallout.

We know that we’re getting Fallout 5 at some point. After all, Bethesda confirmed the existence of Fallout 5 in 2022, well, kind of. Unfortunately, we have no solid idea of when it will actually be released. All we know for sure is that Fallout 5 will arrive after The Elder Scrolls VI.

Check out the Fallout 4 trailer below!

On the topic of when The Elder Scrolls VI and Fallout 5 might arrive, Bethesda chief Todd Howard told IGN in 2022: “Yes, The Elder Scrolls VI is in pre-production and, you know, we’re going to be doing Fallout 5 after that, so our slate’s pretty full going forward for a while. We have some other projects that we look at from time to time as well.”

Sure, that is confirmation that we’re getting Fallout 5 but it’s also a very vague answer. It’s a subtle announcement without it being made a big deal, which of course, the announcement of Fallout 5 will be a big deal, as will The Elder Scrolls VI. When Bethesda officially reveals Fallout 5 to the world, it will most likely be on a big stage in front of a huge live crowd at an event such as an Xbox Games Showcase.

When that time arrives is anyone’s guess. Sure, Microsoft and Bethesda will have some idea, but considering that Fallout 5 technically hasn't been officially announced yet, fans are understandably still left in the dark. Some fans fear that The Elder Scrolls VI might not even arrive on Xbox Series X/S and could end up being a next-gen title.

The prospect of The Elder Scrolls VI being a next-gen title isn't outside the realms of possibility and if that comes true, our next adventure in Tamriel could be two or three years away, at least. If so, we could perhaps add a further couple of years for the arrival of Fallout 5.

Hopefully, Bethesda will put us all out of our misery sooner rather than later with a new reveal of The Elder Scrolls VI and an official announcement for Fallout 5. At least for the immediate future, we can still enjoy the likes of Fallout and The Elder Scrolls series on subscription services such as Xbox Game Pass.
