Great news, we’re finally getting some new Fallout games from Bethesda!
Terrible news! You’ll be 200 years old before you can actually play Fallout 5.
A few days ago, VGC’s Jordan Middler appeared on the Friends Per Second podcast and revealed one of the worst-kept secrets in gaming media: yes, some Fallout video games are currently in development.
"There are multiple Fallout projects in development, including as far as I'm aware, the one you've all been wanting,” Middler stated on the Friends Per Second podcast.

That’s incredible news. We’re finally going to get a new, mainline Fallout game at some point in the next year or s– oh, hold up, I accidentally cut him off.
“But it's not far enough along to make an announcement that people will be playing it any time soon,” Middler continued.
“Fallout 5 should've been day one, and they didn't bother… Much like Fallout, another franchise which is huge that they're doing nothing with at the moment, essentially. Fallout 76 exists, but the fact that Fallout 5 wasn't rushed immediately into production when that all happened, it's just crazy.“
Ah. Right. So, it’s bloody ages away by the sounds of things.

Now, if I’m reading between the lines here, it seems that the Fallout titles that are being developed were in some way influenced by the success of Amazon’s Fallout TV show… which came out in 2024.
Obviously Bethesda is hard at work on developing The Elder Scrolls VI at the moment, so that means they probably don’t have much in the way of manpower to devote to a project as big as Fallout 5.
If what Middler is saying comes from a good source, which I do not doubt given his impressive track record, then that probably means that they’re probably still in (or have only just left) the pre-production phase.
And given how long The Elder Scrolls VI has taken to produce, let’s just say I would bet a substantial amount of money on us not playing Fallout 5 until sometime in the 2030s, at the earliest.
