Fallout fans are not best pleased with Bethesda, mostly because they’re pretty certain that they won’t be able to play Fallout 5 in their lifetimes.
I think it’s no secret that Bethesda is taking their sweet time with The Elder Scrolls VI. Now to be fair, that’s a good thing. It’s better that they take their time and release a fully realised game, rather than push something half-baked out of the door just to appease the fans.
However, the knock-on effect of The Elder Scrolls VI’s long development time means that Fallout 5 is going to take even longer, as there’s no way in hell that Bethesda is going to outsource its sole development to another studio.
That’s probably why fans aren’t keen on the wait, at least based on the comments over on a Twitter post by Jamie Moran.

“Well yeah, I have written off Elder Scrolls and Fallout games because I might not live long enough to see them. They take 16 years to make”, commented user @magicrat_larry.
“People still play Skyrim, they could have released 6 by now with that same game engine with new stories and fun, but they choose 16 years.”
“Bethesda ran into the same issue Valve faced with Half-Life 3, where insane success of the predecessor raises expectations for the sequel to a level that cant possibly be achieved and the more that time passes, the higher the expectations get”, replied user @AStev1689.
Yeah, I’m kinda with them on this one. It does feel like AAA development times have ballooned a little too far in the past decade.

Personally, I’d kind of like to play the next mainline Fallout game before my eyesight starts to deteriorate and the arthritis begins to kick in.
Let’s just hope that rumoured Fallout 3 remaster is real, because it might be the only Fallout game we get in the 2020s.
