Ghost of Yōtei’s free Legends DLC has finally arrived.
If you didn’t check out Ghost of Tsushima’s equivalent, it essentially introduces an online co-op multiplayer mode, although there’s plenty of content you can complete solo.
The DLC should begin downloading as soon as you boot up your PlayStation 5, but you can always press the prompt to check if your game is up to date if you’re unsure.
Ghost of Yōtei’s Free New DLC Has Been In The Works For Years
According to a post on the PlayStation Blog, Legends has been in the works for as long as Ghost of Yōtei, so this isn’t something the team has quickly hobbled together.
Players will once again face off against the Yōtei Six except here, they’re “15-foot demonic bosses”.

“Each boss has a faction of enemies that come with them,” reads the blog post.
“That includes sub-bosses that are different for each [of the Six’s domains] and are themed around the abilities of the boss, so they all connect.
“So for example, the Kitsune has an elite soldier called the Snow Woman, who has frost and cold abilities. The Snake has a summoner.”
This time, instead of simply playing as run-of-the-mill Atsu, you’ll choose from various classes, so you can be a Samurai, Mercenary, or Shinobi, each with their own unique weapons and perks.

Devs note though that there’s no exclusivity surrounding builds, so you can tailor your weapons line-up and skill progression beyond what your build may traditionally suggest.
“Every mission is replayable and there are four difficulties: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum,” it continues.
“As you play those, you’ll face different enemies, different challenges. The higher difficulty you play, the faster you’ll earn XP, the faster your character class will advance, and the better loot you’ll get based on.”
There’s some really cool cosmetics in this mode given the fact that it isn’t tied to the realism of the base game. Legends has much more of a fantasy flair.
There are also story missions which you can approach in two-player co-op as well as Incursions for each of the Yōtei Six which can be tackled with four players.
Survival is another option. This is a four-player “wave defense type of mode” where you’ll work through four missions each themed to a different boss.
You’ll need to defend three locations; some hold a blessing you can activate for a unique perk whilst others boast a curse that’ll make things harder.
Finally, there’s The Raid which is coming in April. This will put players up against the Dragon and Lord Saito.
It’s “four-player, hardcore content” and it’s the only mode where that four-player rule isn’t optional.
The other missions are described as “co-optional”. I do think that Raid limitation may be met with some backflash.
Legends also boasts a cool lobby apparently, where you can partake in light PvP elements, play the base game’s coin-flicking game against your friends, and enjoy more Bamboo Strike.
All in all, Ghost of Yōtei’s Legends mode appears to offer plenty of content to keep us busy. Personally, I’m hoping a single-player DLC is also in the works.
