Tomb Raider Teases Huge Reveal This Week, Not What We Want

Tomb Raider's 30th anniversary is already giving us the goods, but I need more.

Crystal Dynamics is teasing a big Tomb Raider-related announcement for later this week, but I’m not sure if it’s the one we all want.

In case you missed it, the official Tomb Raider posted a new video earlier this week teasing a possible update to Tomb Raider I-III Remastered.

The video, titled “Coming March 12, 2026: Is That Who I Think It Is?” features a short clip from the South Pacific level of Tomb Raider 3.

The video features Lara swimming underwater, sporting a costume not seen in the original or remastered Tomb Raider 3. This indicates that an update for the remasters may be coming later this week.

Tomb Raider I-III Remastered May Be Getting A Big Update This Week

There’s hope that the update will also include other wishlisted features like improved performance in classic mode, updated graphics details, and a level select mode.

Considering this update seems to have been hyped up by Crystal Dynamics, I imagine there’ll be something big coming with it.

But as welcome as the update is, it’s not quite the one we were all expecting. Yeah, I’m talking about the Legend trilogy again.

Aspyr

Following Aspyr’s remasters of the classic Tomb Raider games by Core Design, comprising the first six games of the series across two collections, fans believed that remasters of the Legend trilogy were up next.

As it stands, these are the only games left in the franchise that are still a little tricky to play on modern systems.

Sure, they’re available via backwards compatibility on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S (aside from Underworld on PS5), but they could do with a fresh coat of paint.

Ahead of the release of Tomb Raider: Catalyst, currently scheduled for 2027, a remastered trilogy of Tomb Raider: Legend, Anniversary, and Underworld is sorely needed to allow us to have every single game available on modern platforms.

As I explained in my timeline explainer from last year, the upcoming new Tomb Raider releases will bridge the gap between the Survivor trilogy and the original series, unifying the timelines.

Catalyst is also set post-Underworld, so it’d make sense to get these remasters out beforehand so players can catch up on the story.

I guess we’ll see if more announcements are to follow. The Tomb Raider series celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, so it’d make sense that we see more stuff coming in the near future as Crystal Dynamics gears up to release Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis.
