Tomb Raider fans are going to have to wait a little longer for an upcoming game, which was originally slated for a 2027 release.
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis and Tomb Raider: Catalyst were both revealed at The Game Awards 2025, with a release year of 2026 for the former and 2027 for the latter.
While development on Legacy of Atlantis seemed to be going smoothly, the game was delayed to February 12, 2027 earlier this year to give Crystal Dynamics more time to cook (and comfortably avoid the Grand Theft Auto VI rush happening towards the end of the year).
What this meant for Tomb Raider: Catalyst is unclear, though it looks like that game has also been pushed back a year to 2028 according to Amazon Games Boss Jeffrey Gattis.

In an interview with The Game Business (via Tomb Raider Chronicles), Gattis spoke about Amazon’s investment between AAA and indie titles, briefly touching on Tomb Raider as an example.
“We have obviously announced the two Tomb Raider titles. Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis comes out on 12 February, next year, and then we'll follow on in 2028 with the next one. We're excited about those,” he revealed.
While this seems to make sense given that launching two mainline games of the same franchise in one year is pretty uncommon, what’s weird is that the announcement hasn’t been made officially outside of this comment by Gattis.
Even if you go onto the official Amazon Games website, Tomb Raider: Catalyst is still listed as coming in 2027.

Tomb Raider: Catalyst is the first original game in the series since Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and is set furthest along in Lara’s story, being set after the events of Tomb Raider: Underworld.
In it, Lara explores ancient ruins in Northern India which have been disturbed following a mysterious cataclysm.
What’s more upsetting about this for Tomb Raider fans is that 2028 will mark 10 years since the release of Shadow of the Tomb Raider, meaning the franchise will have gone a whole decade between new, original games as opposed to remakes or remasters.
One reason for the long delay is due to Crystal Dynamics’ other projects it’s worked on since Rise of the Tomb Raider.
Development of Shadow of the Tomb Raider was handed over to Eidos Montreal, while Crystal Dynamics worked on Marvel's Avengers which was released in 2020.
Following the lukewarm reception to that, it then started work on a Perfect Dark reboot alongside The Initiative, which was then later cancelled by Xbox Game Studios in 2025.
For Perfect Dark, actress Alix Wilton Regan was cast as the protagonist Joanna Dark, who called for fans to "speak up if [they] wanna see Perfect Dark survive" at the time. She was then later cast as Lara Croft for Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis and Tomb Raider: Catalyst.
