Fallout 4 players are gutted to learn that the Anniversary Edition update took more than just their mods. It took the game’s soul as well.

Modern Fallout games are defined by two things in my humble opinion, the world building and the tunes. Fallout: New Vegas is a banger to me not just because I can interact with rich, thought-provoking characters and factions but also because I can soundtrack my adventure with some bopping songs to get me truly immersed.

Fallout 4 isn’t the best Fallout game going but I do think its soundtrack is top notch, and one of its best tracks was featured all the way back in its first trailer, The Wanderer by Dion DiMucci and Dion and the Belmonts.

The song could be listened to in-game through Diamond City radio, but not anymore as the Anniversary Edition update has removed it from the soundtrack. Fans quickly realised after the update dropped and they’re not happy, though the reason why it was removed is pretty sound.

In short it’s the result of a legal dispute between Dion DiMucci and ZeniMax Media, Bethesda’s parent-company. It’s said the song was approved for the game’s promotional campaign but only if Dion could have a say in how the song was used, which allegedly wasn’t honoured.

Because the song was used in the game’s trailer and was the backing track to copious amounts of violence and gore Dion filed a lawsuit and as such the song is no longer part of the game.

It sucks because it’s such a banger, but players on Xbox, PlayStation and PC can stream Spotify while playing their games, so if you really want to listen to the song whilst roaming the wasteland you still can, just not through the game itself.

“Someone really has to go directly into [Dion’s] face to tell him that the song had the total opposite effect of what he said lmao” said one fan.

Another chimed in with the classic Bethesda fan response of “everyone disliked that”, which has been doing the rounds recently as more and more players take issue with the latest update.

While The Wanderer no longer being featured in Fallout 4 is disappointing it’s obviously not a deal-breaker. You couldn’t choose the songs that played through your PipBoy anyway it was all down to the whim of the radio stations but still, it would have been nice to see it remain part of the game’s soundtrack.
