Fallout 4 Players Lose 1,000 Hour Playthroughs, Updated Wrecking Ball

This is devastating

Fallout 4 players are furious after Bethesda has once again ruined their playthroughs, forcing many to start over from scratch.

What should have been a celebration of 10 years of Fallout 4 has resulted in thousands of hours of progress being lost, with no way of recovery.

Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition is a new update for the game that introduces new Creation Club content, but not that much which is another reason gamers are unhappy with it.

Its biggest sin though is how it can potentially butcher your modded save file, something that’s incredibly common in Bethesda games that support mods.

“Bethesda Updates, Bethesda Updates never changes” read a post by Reddit user PandaThatSLAYS, sharing the iconic picture of Big Boss at the end of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater mourning the loss of his former mentor.

It’s not just your gameplay enhancing mods either, full-on expansions such as Fallout: London could also be affected, though thankfully plenty of development teams foresaw Bethesda’s update screwing with their existing work and have taken steps to ensure it’s safe to continue using the expansions.

Fallout players can also protect themselves by simply not installing the update, and it’s recommended that you turn off any auto-update setting that might be active on your Xbox, PlayStation or PC for future reference.

PC players also have a slight fix, as on PC you can revert your game to a version before the update dropped. Console players don’t have this luxury though.

It might not affect everyone but it’s certainly a mess, and a massive shame to those who’ve poured hours and hours into Fallout 4 only to have it all wiped away because they didn’t want to play the vanilla version.

Adding insult to injury

As if Bethesda fans aren’t already suffering, Bethesda exec Todd Howard came out with a statement just the other day saying The Elder Scrolls VI is still a way off from being finished.

Not only is this frustrating for Elder Scrolls fans hoping to play the new game soon, it’s also bad news for Fallout fans as clearly Fallout 5 is a good decade away, probably longer if it’s of the same scale The Elder Scrolls VI is.

The only saving grace is Howard suggested there’s more on the way for Fallout fans than Fallout 76 updates, implying Fallout 3 Remastered is indeed real and hopefully dropping next year.
