Yes, Elder Scrolls 6 Is Already Playable, But Don't Start Celebrating Yet

It’s still a thing, right?

Bethesda's head honcho has reconfirmed that there is a playable build of The Elder Scrolls VI, but it’s not a time to celebrate just yet.

You’d be forgiven if you have some concerns that The Elder Scrolls VI might not see the light of day. After all, Bethesda first announced the highly anticipated RPG all the way back at E3 2018. A time so long away that E3 doesn't even exist anymore. At the time of its announcement, we were treated to a vague but still exciting cinematic trailer for the next entry in The Elder Scrolls series, with a flyover of Tamriel which concluded with the new game's logo.

Sure, that wasn't much to go on, but the fact that Bethesda had acknowledged that we’re getting The Elder Scrolls VI in such a big way sent social media into a frenzy. There was such a buzz that, no doubt, fans still get hyped by that trailer to this day.

Sadly, since that time, we’ve not heard all that much about the progress of The Elder Scrolls VI, let alone seeing some gameplay or its release date. The best news we’ve probably had so far is that there is a playable build somewhere at Bethesda HQ.

What’s more, even without The Elder Scrolls VI announcement over seven years ago, there’s no way Bethesda would not give us a new game for a series that is so beloved. Nonetheless, it would be nice to get some kind of major new update.

Todd Howard teases The Elder Scrolls VI

That being said, as reported by GamesRadar, when recently speaking to GQ Magazine, Todd Howard acknowledged The Elder Scrolls VI once more, but warned that it’s “still a long way off.”

“We did a big play test yesterday for The Elder Scrolls VI, and you have to really look at the screen and say, 'What is this? What does this need? Where are we at?” said Howard.

"We have hundreds of people on Fallout right now, with 76 and some other things we're doing, but The Elder Scrolls VI is the everyday thing.”

Howard then perhaps teased that it might follow in the footsteps of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, which, despite leaks and rumours, surprised fans after it was shadowdropped earlier this year.

"You might say that was a test run. It worked out well. I like to just announce stuff and release it,” Howard teased. "My perfect version, and I'm not saying this is going to happen, is that it's going to be a while and then, one day, the game will just appear.”

It’s not much to go on at this point, but just to be safe and for now at least, I’ll be assuming that The Elder Scrolls VI is a next-gen title. We’ll update you once we learn more.
