New information on The Elder Scrolls VI may be light, but the setting for the game may have already been teased for years.
The Elder Scrolls VI (subtitle still unknown) is the sequel to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, but Bethesda has already been supplying us with a steady stream of The Elder Scrolls Online content over the years.
Although it launched with only a small amount of Tamriel’s geography explorable, the game has been slowly expanding since 2014, and now has almost the entire continent playable across various chapters.
Not only has this been keeping us fed while we wait for the next singleplayer RPG, but it also seems like the content Bethesda has been releasing may provide a hint as to what the setting of the sequel may actually be.

As you can see by the map linked below, which shows all available explorable areas in The Elder Scrolls Online so far, there are a few provinces which haven’t been added to the game yet.

It’s extremely likely that the setting of The Elder Scrolls VI will be an area that hasn’t appeared in the online MMO yet, as Bethesda will want to debut it for the first time in the next game.
The Morrowind mainland is missing a few explorable areas, particularly in the peninsula in the north-east of the province. And Skyrim also has a huge chunk of its central region also omitted for now (an expansion for Skyrim has been teased for 2027).
But, obviously both of these locations have already appeared in previous Elder Scrolls games, and it’s highly likely that Bethesda will want to feature a brand new region for its next game. It'd be extremely boring if we went back to Skyrim for The Elder Scrolls VI.
That leaves two more possible contenders: Black Marsh and Hammerfell. In the lore, Black Marsh is a dense swampland, with a large amount of it set underwater and only accessible to Argonians. It’d be difficult to pull off in a game, and might feel too limiting for players.
That leads us to assume that The Elder Scrolls VI will be set in Hammerfell, the home of the Redguards.
Rumours have persisted for years that the game could be set across both Hammerfell and High Rock, and given how dramatically Bethesda is avoiding bringing the province into The Elder Scrolls Online, it’s safe to assume that we may be visiting this location in the next game.
Hammerfell hasn’t been explorable in the series since The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard and The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall, although you can explore a small portion of its northern borders in The Elder Scrolls Online.
However, for the most part, the main part of the region has yet to debut in a modern Elder Scrolls game.
Obviously, there are about 30 years of technological advancements since then, so stepping into Hammerfell in the next Elder Scrolls game will feel like visiting the province for the first time.
