Bethesda has teased a return to Skyrim next year, 15 years after the release of the game.

The Elder Scrolls Online has steadily been giving us our Tamriel fix while we wait for The Elder Scrolls VI to come out, with over a decade of updates and expansions released so far.

With pretty much all of Tamriel now explored (aside from some bits of Morrowind, Hammerfell, and Black Marsh), Bethesda may be setting sights on a familiar location.

The Elder Scrolls Online developers Kira Ross Schlitt, Jason Barnes, and Mike Finnigan recently ran through the future roadmap for the game with press, teasing a return to Skyrim in the process.

As GameWatcher reports, “even though the game’s less immediate future still hasn’t been fully defined (expect smaller streams and substantial blog posts to keep you updated), the devs were comfortable enough to tease we’ll be returning to Skyrim in early 2027 through a new part of the famous region that hasn’t been seen before in TESO.”

Familiar Towns From Skyrim Will Return In The Elder Scrolls Online

These “new parts” teased refer to areas from Skyrim that have not been added since launch. While players can visit Windhelm, Solitude, and Riften, towns like Whiterun, Dawnstar, and Falkreath do not appear in the game.

You also can’t visit Throat of the World, which is one of the game’s biggest disappointments due to how much of a huge presence it had in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. It's safe to say there are many locations that could do with returning in the MMO game.

The Elder Scrolls Online is going through a dramatic change in 2026 with the introduction of seasons, which are expected to roll out on a three-month basis.

Seasons will feature gameplay content, such as new zones, quests, classes, or systems, as well as new changes to the base game such as quality-of-life improvements and balance tweaks.

Every season will also have a Tamriel Tome, essentially The Elder Scrolls Online’s own Battle Pass, where you progress through a line of free and premium rewards as you play.

The first season, titled Season Zero: Dawn and Dusk, launches tomorrow on 2 April and features the Night Market Event Zone.

This new zone appears in the Oblivion realm of Fargrave, which opens on 29 April, and allows you to enter in a series of PvE encounters after you pledge allegiance to one of three factions.
