Halo: Campaign Evolved gets a brutal game-changing mode made for masochists

If you’re looking for an extra challenge in Halo: Campaign Evolved, then you’ll want to check out this mod if you’re a pure masochist.

Fans love the Halo series for multiple reasons, such as the compelling story of good vs evil, its high-octane first-person shooter action, its interesting worlds and characters, and much more. For those who want something with a little more spice, this is where the ‘Legendary’ difficulty comes into play.

On Legendary difficulty, Master Chief takes more damage, the enemies are significantly harder to kill, and they’re far more aggressive in attack. However, Legendary can be made even harder by implementing Skulls, which modify all sorts of gameplay mechanics. But if you want an even steeper challenge, then check out this free mod.

This free Halo: Campaign Evolved mod makes Legendary even harder!

The free mod in question is ‘Faster Flood’, created by oHolySLOTH, and it's available to download now on Nexusmods. This mod does pretty much what it says on the tin.

“Marine and Elite flood combat forms will have varying speed. Some will move at the base game speed; some will move up to twice as fast. It's all randomised, so it gets chaotic; still figuring out how to control the speed boost. Let me know if you guys want me to add the tank form as well”

The randomised factor certainly seems interesting, because you’ll never know quite what to expect with each run. One game, the smallest Flood could be the fastest enemy, and next, the large tank Flood could be running so fast, they put Usain Bolt to shame.

In terms of the Flood itself, this parasitic organism has a love/hate relationship with the Halo community. Some players might love the intense nature of its sections, with the Flood, well, flooding you from all sides. On the flip side, fans might hate the Flood for those exact opposite reasons. However, one thing's for sure: for better or worse, the Flood is one of the most infamous enemy types in video game history.

Sadly, the only snag with this mod is that, like most mods, ‘Faster Flood’ for Halo: Campaign Evolved is a PC deal and is not available on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S version of the game. But that will come as a surprise to few.

“If this is the standard going forward, Halo might well and truly be back, and I’m already hungry for a remake of Halo 2 next,” said GAMINGbible’s Sam in his review, scoring it an “Exceptional” 9/10.

“The main game was exceptional, and the Remix mode adds so much replay value for both single-player and multiplayer playthroughs. It was only the prequel missions that I found to be a tad disappointing, but I wouldn’t go as far as to say they were bad or unenjoyable. I just wish they were a little bit more.”

Halo: Campaign Evolved is also currently included in Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass at no extra cost.
