Halo: Campaign Evolved has been a mixed bag for many gamers so far, with some admiring what Halo Studios has created but others hating it.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, of course, but our review was certainly in the former camp. Is Halo: Campaign Evolved perfect? Far from it, but it has plenty of merits despite not being a 1:1 recreation of what Bungie did 25 years ago.
Luckily, if the game isn’t up to your standards you can make it so on PC. The game’s been out for just over a week now and yet NexusMods is already teeming with great new additions to your game.
Below are a handful of recommended mods that might just make your new-and-improved Great Journey worth the trip.
Mark IV In Main Campaign
Aside from remaking Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo Studios added three prequel missions taking place before Master Chief first stepped foot on the ring.
Advert
In those missions he sports the Mjolnir Mark IV armour, and yet for some reason Halo Studios didn’t make this an unlockable skin for the main game. This mod by EpicPerry fixes that.
Reach Jetpack
One for the Halo: Reach fans. As the name suggests this mod by gruntdotapi adds the Halo: Reach jetpack into the game.
It’s great for getting to those hard-to-reach players/vantage points, meaning it’ll probably be a handy way of collecting skulls for the Campaign Remix mode.

Johnson's Stanchion
No, that's not an innuendo. This mod created by gruntdotapi lets you wield Johnson’s Stanchion rifle after staring at it for most of the prequel missions.
This legendary firearm has been part of Halo lore for quite some time, and is closely associated with Sgt Johnson as he uses one in the novel Halo: Contact Harvest. It even makes an appearance in Halo Wars 2 as a special upgrade.
However it’s never been usable in a game, meaning Johnson whipping it out in the opening prequel cutscene is a cruel tease we’ll never forgive Halo Studios for. At least with this mod we can actually use it.
Everyone is Sgt. Johnson
Speaking of Sgt. Johnson, this mod turns him into every human character in the game, even crucial characters like Captain Keyes.
On some levels you can have a small army of Johnson’s fighting alongside you, just as Bungie intended.
Halo Campaign Evolved Split-screen Coop
Before there’s any confusion split-screen multiplayer is available in the console versions of Halo: Campaign Evolved, but it’s not a feature found on the PC version.
JPurd123’s mod fixes that, so you can play with a friend on the same set-up. Happy days.
Scarab Gun
A certified Halo 2 classic; the Scarab Gun. This legendary weapon was an Easter egg that required a bit of elbow-grease to get in the second Halo game, before returning as a skull in Halo: The Master Chief Collection.
This mod by David6700 adds it to Halo: Campaign Evolved and it’s as beautiful as the day we lost it.
Classic Zoom
To close this list of on something practical we have Classic Zoom by EpicPerry, which fixes on the biggest pet peeves gamers are having with Halo: Campaign Evolved.
The in-game Zoom functionality is done in the modern style which makes it a pain to re-bind if you want to change your controls. This mod gives the game a more authentic feel by keeping the zoomed weapons zoomed, and the un-zoomed…un-zoomed.
