Fallout 4 player finds fast travel trick we wish we'd known about years ago

This is worth trying for those on PC

Bethesda’s game worlds are enormous.

Whether it’s The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Starfield, or Fallout 4, it’s practically impossible to ‘master’ these open worlds.

Even if you’ve completed all of a game's quests and side quests, it’s likely that you’re still overlooking hidden loot locations or tucked-away NPC encounters.

That’s the beauty of Bethesda titles; an unsuspecting surprise is seemingly always waiting around the corner.

I’m sure as a community, we’ve picked Fallout 4 over pretty well, but as individuals? There’s likely still a lot many of us could learn.

That’s certainly the case for me as I confess, I didn’t know about this fast travel trick which one Fallout 4 player has brought to light.

Bethesda is currently hard at work on The Elder Scrolls VI which was first unveiled in 2017.

This tip comes from Reddit user NuuBark who wrote, “I found a way to reduce fast-travel load times to ~20s by alt-tabbing out of the game.”

You can take a look at the user doing just that in the video below.

It’s believed this trick works as the loading time is tied to the framerate so if you hop away from the game, you’ll benefit from the dip.

There are mods that work to the same effect if you don’t want to alt-tab every time you want to fast travel.

I should also stress that this is clearly of appeal only to those on PC.

I will warn you, this method can sometimes crash the vanilla game, so perhaps the modding route is the better of the two choices available.

Not everybody reports experiencing such crashing though so alt-tabbing is always worth a go.

Another user shared, “I use the High FPS Physics Fix with: DisableBlackLoadingScreens=true, DisableAnimationOnLoadingScreens=true, PostloadingMenuSpeed=3.0. It's rare that I see a loading screen longer than 10 seconds.”

It’s helpful to know that there are several workarounds.

After all, no one wants to spend a third of their playthrough stuck on loading screens.
