Fallout fans are once again getting themselves hyped for the long-rumoured remake of Fallout 3, as some believe that it’s the “best Fallout game” that Bethesda has ever produced.

In case you haven’t heard, rumours have been floating around for close to a year now that Bethesda is planning to either remaster or remake a couple of Fallout projects.

The rumour-mill can’t quite decide if the reported Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas re-releases are going to be remasters or remakes, but, in context, the rumours do make a lot of sense.

Bethesda (and, by extension, Microsoft) has been scrambling to do something with the Fallout IP ever since Amazon’s ridiculously successful Fallout TV series dropped back in 2024.

Obviously, they’re too busy trying to finish The Elder Scrolls VI at the moment to suddenly shift and start work on Fallout 5, but they’ve done their best to generate some hype for the old games with updates for Fallout 76 and Fallout 4.

Plus, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered was a huge success, so it’s clear that there’s some demand there.

Remastering either Fallout 3 or Fallout: New Vegas would certainly be quicker than starting and finishing work on Fallout 5, and they’re projects that Bethesda could outsource to a different studio.

Over on Twitter, one user is getting folks hyped about a potential Fallout 3 remaster/remake by shining a light on some of its DLC expansions, and it’s obvious (based on the comments) that fans are desperate to revisit the 2008 game in one way or another.

“This might be the greatest thing I’ve heard all year. My favorite game getting a remake,” commented user @outcasthaven.

“3 and new Vegas getting a remaster/remake would be awesome,” replied user @Kctcreeper.

“The biggest turn off for those games for me is just how god awful their controls are to play. If they played like 4 they would become some of the best games out there.”

“Fallout 3 is the best Fallout game Bethesda made. It’s sad that they peaked immediately. I’d love a remastered version with the base building and scrap system from 4/76. I enjoyed having a purpose for every item,” commented user @CascadeTheBard.

Funnily enough, reading through the comments shows that a lot of fans seemingly disagree on which one of Fallout 3’s DLCs was the best.

If you ask me, the answer is straightforward: it has, and always will be, Point Lookout. Sure, The Pitt and Broken Steel were cool, but the idea of seeing Point Lookout’s creepy vibes recreated using an updated engine is getting me more hyped than anything else Fallout 3 has to offer.
