Elder Scrolls modder creates in-game tribute to departed mum: 'she can live on in Tamriel'

An Elder Scrolls modder has created an in-game tribute to their departed mum so that ‘she can live on in Tamriel’.

An Elder Scrolls modder has created an in-game tribute to their departed mum, so that ‘she can live on in Tamriel’.

As reported by PC Gamer, the modder who goes by the name ‘VIIVII’ created a three-tiered mod after their mum passed away earlier in January 2023. The ‘In Memory of my Mom’ mod is compatible with Morrowind, Oblivion and, of course, Skyrim. The heart-warming mod adds protective shrines to each of the three games and will give you a buff related to health, magicka, stamina or stats.

Starfield is the next epic to release from Bethesda.

“My mom Teneele passed away in January. She was only 46 and in that time I have been trying to cope with the fact she is gone,” wrote VIIVII on Nexusmods. “When she passed, I asked for help in the forums on how to add a shrine in her memory. Since then I have been trying to work up the nerve to play the games she introduced me to. Today I finally did that and we start here in Morrowind.”

“Nothing fancy. I added an imperial cult shrine and a note. The shrine operates like a normal shrine and the note just says she can live on in every adventure I take in Tamriel. Since my mom always suffered from a severe case of 'restartitis,' the shrine is located in Seyda Neen close to where you exit the tutorial," they continued.

“The funniest part of me making this for my mom is she never played with mods and now her memory will be one. Anyway, that's all there is to it. If you want to add your own screenshots go for it. The biggest thing I can tell you is to call your parents and tell them you love them. You never know how much time you have with them.”

VIIVII went on to explain that fellow modder Arcarias "was kind enough to clean up the file [so it] can be accessed as an optional file if you want it.” I think whether or not we have a parent in our lives, we can probably all relate to this mod in our own unique way. It truly is a lovely creation from VIIVII.

In related Skyrim news, it was recently revealed that mods for the game are now topping 100 million monthly downloads, despite the game initially releasing 12 years ago.
