The Elder Scrolls 6 delay leaves fans torn

What will happen now?

The devastating lay-offs from Microsoft this week will have fans wondering what will happen to many of the games they were looking forward to, including The Elder Scrolls VI.

This isn’t to say that the game will be cancelled, but a big reshuffle of teams, trying to recoup after Microsoft laid off over 9000 staff, could end up delaying titles.

It’s highly unlikely that this loss of talented staff will impact the release schedule of Bethesda, seeing as they haven’t even announced a potential launch date for The Elder Scrolls VI.

Fans are still concerned, taking to Reddit to express their fears.

“How delayed do you guys think TES 6 will be now?” asked one Redditor, who continued, “I originally thought early 2027 for the release date, but this might push it all the way to mid 2028.”

It’s possible that this user is confusing Zenimax, who work on Elder Scrolls Online, with the core Bethesda team that works on single-player adventures.

A fellow Redditor notes, “Bethesda Softworks and Zenimax Online are the only ones affected by these current layoffs, not Bethesda Game Studios, which is making Elder Scrolls 6. If an internal delay does happen it will be over an issue with the game itself or some external circumstance.”

The sentiment is echoed by many, including this user, who said, “This doesn't change much of anything about the release date for TES VI.”

Of course, if Microsoft decides to lay off even more developers, rather than fight against the money hungry shareholders who have a stranglehold over the profits, of which there are billions of dollars, then maybe it will impact the game.

However, if they see sense, and realise that the Xbox brand can’t survive without developers making great games to sustain those billions of dollars, then it shouldn’t be a problem.
