The Pokémon Company is teasing something big, potentially the classic game re-releases we’ve been waiting years for.
With Nintendo Switch Online constantly adding new games to its line-up I’m baffled that the early-gen Pokémon games haven’t made the cut yet.
Other Pokémon games have like the Pokémon Stadium spin-off titles but if you want to play the originals you’ll need a physical copy, and they don’t come cheap nowadays let me tell you.
Whether it be through Nintendo Switch Online or a physical collection we need these games playable on modern consoles, and the new Super Bowl tease could be just that.

A video starring Jigglypuff was released yesterday ahead of a 30th anniversary celebration video airing on Sunday 8 February. The video will be broadcast during the U.S Super Bowl and while The Pokémon Company hasn’t confirmed what it’ll be about it has teased it’ll kick off a “yearlong campaign.”

This could mean a few things and, while a Gen 10 tease would be nice I can’t see that happening, not with a potential Pokemon Presents due later this month.
What I do think this could be alluding to though is the future of re-release, possibly even remastered, classic Pokémon games.
It just makes sense as anniversaries are all about celebrating the past and with Pokémon surpassing such a monumental milestone like 30 years you’d expect it to reflect on the games that started it all.
While I’d love to see the Gen 1 games remade in gorgeous HD-2D.
That's probably wishful thinking, so I’d honestly settle for the games playable on Nintendo Switch Online instead.
I’d also take a new Let’s Go game.
While Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu & Let’s Go Eevee weren’t as possible as the more traditional games they were a lot of fun, and I’d love to see some of the other Pokémon mascots get their own game too. Maybe the announcement is teasing Let’s Go Jigglypuff?
We won’t know until the official 30th anniversary drops later this week and while we really shouldn’t set our expectations too high we can’t help but hope for the best.
The 30th anniversary Pokémon video will be shown during the U.S Super Bowl on 8 February, though you’ll be able to catch it on YouTube and Pokémon other social media platforms as well when it’s live.
