This Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion 8K remaster is perfect and we want the real thing right now!

Initially released for PC and Xbox 360 in 2006, before making its way to PS3, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is by some considered to be the absolute best of Bethesda’s fantasy RPG series. Though some will of course argue the case for Morrowind and Skyrim, both are very worthy equals.

Oblivion offered as my entry point to the series, which is probably why I consider it to be my favourite. Don’t get me wrong, I love Skyrim. But there’s something special about the opening moments of Oblivion breaking out of prison before wandering into the Cyrodiil wilderness. For its time, it was also a really good-looking game and if it was to receive an official remaster today, it certainly wouldn't look too out of place.

Sadly, there are no signs of Bethesda remastering Oblivion, let alone giving it the full remake treatment. Thankfully, however, as reported by DSOgaming, a talented modder has been working their magic to create a stunning Oblivion 8K remaster to perfection.

The talented modder that we have to thank goes by the name ‘Arthas’ and the ‘8K Texture Pack’ which comes in at a modest 760MB, is available now via Nexusmods. This pack only gives the Oblivion sewers a remaster, which explains its modest file size. Still, I guess at least the sewers of Cyrodiil have never looked better. I’m sure there are other mods (such as this beauty) that this sewer makeover will be compatible with (hopefully).

In related news, this Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remake is drop-dead gorgeous and the apparent release date for The Elder Scrolls VI has surfaced. Will we finally get a confirmed release at this week's Xbox Showcase? We certainly hope so, but we won't be holding our breath.
