The Elder Scrolls 6 story tease leaks after Sentinel title 'confirmed'

The Elder Scrolls VI’s official name will allegedly be The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel, with an official reveal coming as early as next week, but that’s not all.

Yesterday, The Verge claimed to have insider knowledge of the next Elder Scrolls game and revealed its name online, though many gamers weren’t surprised.

The name Sentinel was believed to have been teased years ago in Starfield and with the next game said to be set in Hammerfell, the facts were lining up nicely.

However, more than just The Elder Scrolls VI’s title was shared by The Verge. Story details were shared too, albeit a very short synopsis.

The Verge’s remarks reiterated that gamers would be returning to Hammerfell for the next game, and it’ll be “the first game about the history of the Elder Scrolls, and help uncover the secrets of these mysterious ancient artifacts.”

A pretty vague description, but the idea is pretty exciting, and here’s why.

The Elder Scrolls 6 sounds like it’s diving deeper into the one part of Skyrim I liked

Before anyone gets the torches and pitchforks out I’m not against The Elder Scrolls by any means; I’m just more into Fallout than any of Bethesda’s other IPs.

On a first-time playthrough, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was great, and I endeavoured to do and see as much as I could before putting it down. Unfortunately, I’ve never felt the urge to revisit it as others have.

That said, the one part that kept me interested was the history. Seeking out magical artefacts for the College of Winterhold, meeting Daedra and learning more about the Dragonborn through the DLC were standout moments to me, and it sounds like The Elder Scrolls VI could be more of that.

Hammerfell is a pretty big place and we’ve already seen from the 2018 teaser trailer that the environments are going to be quite varied. While it’ll be a joy to explore on the surface, my hope for the game is, we’ll get to go even deeper into the world.

It’s a fantasy setting for crying out loud, and despite there being so many games in the series already, it still feels like we’ve only scratched the surface of its magic and mythology.

The Elder Scrolls has such a rich chasm of lore behind it and if ‘Sentinel’ is keen to give us a longer history lesson, I’m all for it. The politics of Skyrim were never my cup of tea anyway.

Of course that’s dependent on how accurate The Verge’s claims are. Based on what’s been said already, the reports will either be proven or disproven in the coming months, as gamers are now looking towards The Game Awards 2026 to deliver our first proper look at the game.

We’ll be so grateful to never see that Windows 11 background again from the 2018 teaser…
