Elden Ring has more spells than Hogwarts Legacy, strangely enough

Hogwarts Legacy will teach you the Wizarding World's most famous spells, but you'll only have a limited arsenal.

Hogwarts Legacy will soon allow you to live out your dream of becoming a student of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Whether you’re looking forward to perfecting your Wingardium Leviosa or you’re hoping to experiment with a couple of Unforgivable Curses, Hogwarts Legacy will teach you numerous spells. It does have fewer spells than Elden Ring though, a fact that certainly took me by surprise.

That’s not to say that Hogwarts Legacy isn’t jam-packed with content. One developer confirmed that it could take you over 120 hours to see all that Hogwarts Legacy has to offer. Considering the game has over 100 side quests, that seems apt. It’s thought that the main quest will take roughly 40 hours. Essentially, you could be playing this game for a long, long time, but you’ll only have a limited arsenal of spells.

Check out the latest cinematic trailer for Hogwarts Legacy below.

A few days ago, hand-on previews for Hogwarts Legacy landed online. In our own preview, GAMINGbible’s Ewan wrote, “If the game’s open world and RPG mechanics can deliver, and if the game’s combat can continue to evolve and grow as the game progresses, then I think Harry Potter fans have something quite special to look forward to.” In the days since, fans have been piecing together every scrap of information they can.

It’s been noted that Hogwarts Legacy reportedly features 26 spells. Well, Twitter user SlowEstus has pointed out that Elden Ring actually contains 171 spells which is quite clearly a lot more. I shouldn’t imagine that Hogwarts Legacy’s combat is anywhere near as rigorous as Elden Ring’s so 26 spells will likely serve us just fine.

If you’re curious, you can also be a dark wizard in Hogwarts Legacy. Developers have promised that players can go ‘as dark as they like,’ and the game won’t punish them for it. Already fans are teasing that they’ll be putting Voldemort’s efforts to shame .. grim.
