It’s always nice when one of our favourite games gets some added love and care from its developers and perhaps over the years, not many games have been as well supported as Techland’s Dying Light.

Originally released in 2015 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One before arriving on Nintendo Switch in 2021, Techland has supported Dying Light with not only The Following expansion in 2016 but also a wealth of DLC and content updates years after it was originally released and it’s arguably received its best update yet, eight years after its launch.

This week Techland announced that the original Dying Light (not 2022’s Dying Light 2: Stay Human) is getting a free remaster via a new-gen patch for PlayStation 5 and it’s available now. This new-gen patch is not to be confused with the performance patch that was released in 2022 which gave the game a 60fps boost.

The most recent update brings all the bells and whistles that you would expect to see with any new-gen game and not one that is nearly 10 years old. The free new-gen upgrade gives the players the choice of Performance Mode (60fps in 1080p), Balanced Mode (a targeted 60fps in 1440p) and finally, Graphics Mode (30fps in 4K).

What’s more, even the PlayStation 4 Pro has had some love as the free update will bring an improved 30fps cap and a new online network function that will utilise EOS, which should make for a more stable online experience when playing co-op with friends. If Xbox gamers are concerned, fear not, because Techland has confirmed that the free new-gen update will be coming to Xbox Series X|S at a later date.

I think it’s time for me to jump back into Dying Light and finally finish The Following expansion on PS5. Dying Light is out now on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch.
