Dying Light celebrates 10th anniversary with huge free download

With Dying Light: The Beast expected to be released in August, it seems as though Techland has not yet abandoned its original zombie-filled survival game with a huge free download expected to drop soon.

It is hard to believe that it has been 10 years since Techland first released Dying Light, a zombie survival horror game which follows the story of undercover agent Kyle Crane who must infiltrate a quarantine zone in a Middle Eastern city called Harran.

Since then, Dying Light 2 was released back in 2022 and more recently, Dying Light: The Beast was announced and will be released on 21 August.

It is safe to say that the franchise has been a success and to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of Dying Light, Techland has announced a huge free download.

Dying Light: Retouched will be released on 26 June and will include visual enhancements, a remastered soundtrack, and more.

It will be released across PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S but there is not yet news of a Nintendo Switch release.

Retouched is not a remaster but simply a way to experience 2015’s Dying Light better than ever before.

According to franchise director Tymon Smektała, the update will improve the original experience without altering system requirements.

“When I looked online the day after [the update was announced], my heart skipped a beat. Quite a few of you were expecting a full remaster of some sort,” Smektała explained in a new blog post.

“So, let's set the record straight: the Retouched Update is about squeezing out even more from the Dying Light you already love. It’s not a complete overhaul or remaster.”

The Retouched update will also include improved textures, lighting and shadows and composer Paweł Blaszczak has even returned to remaster the soundtrack.

The update will be the perfect excuse to return to Dying Light both as a way to celebrate its 10-year anniversary and to reacquaint yourself with the series ahead of the launch of Dying Light: The Beast.
