One of the most wonderful things about Doctor Who is that it's always changing. One moment it's about a mysterious old man and his granddaughter learning all about the Aztecs, the next it's following a bow tie-wearing maniac as he sprints through the wreckage of a ship pursued by stone statues.
Doctor Who has survived for as long as it has because every era feels new. Like its title character, it has to regenerate to keep moving. This, of course, means not every era of the show is for everyone.
It's no secret that a lot of viewers trailed off when David Tennant regenerated into Matt Smith back in 2011. As great as Matt Smith (and the actors that followed him) was, Tennant was The Doctor to an entire generation. Not since Tom Baker had we seen an actor become so synonymous with the role.

It should come as no surprise, then, that Tennant's shocking return to Doctor Who as the 14th Doctor has brought a tsunami of fans back to the series.
Jodie Whittaker's final episode officially saw her regenerate into the artist formerly known as the 10th Doctor, in a teaser for the upcoming 60th anniversary that has sent fans into a frenzy.
While we're more excited to see the wonderful Ncuti Gatwa (Sex Education) step into the part next year, a new run of adventures with Tennant is a thrilling prospect. After all, he is properly brilliant, isn't he?
