The word delusional springs to mind, but it’s okay to go a tad delulu every now and then.

Star Wars fans have suddenly decided that Padmé Amidala isn’t really dead.

According to the Star Wars canon, she is - or at least is assumed to be.

As seen at the end of Revenge of the Sith, Padmé dies from a broken heart which sounds a bit cliche but intense emotional distress can lead to heart issues, and Anakin didn’t make life easy for this fan-favourite.

It’s a shame really because Padmé was so badass in The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones that I always felt a tad disappointed that her adoration of Anakin overrode all of her other personality traits in Episode III.

Many feel the same way which is why a fan theory has gained traction suggesting that Padmé didn’t actually die and instead faked her death so that Anakin wouldn’t find her.

My only issue with this theory is that I find it hard to believe that Padmé would abandon Luke and Leia, even if they were sent to loving new homes.

In recent months, Natalie Portman has voiced her interest in returning to the series which has only fuelled the hype surrounding the theory.

“Listen, nobody’s asked me, but I’m open to everything,” Portman told Entertainment Tonight. “Life’s only fun if you’re open to every possibility.”

That’s enough copium for fans.

“She never really died! Because how could someone die from a broken heart after giving birth to twins?! That funeral procession in Naboo was one of her handmaidens,” chewbeccashotlast wrote.

“Why even go to that level of detail? Just say ‘Somehow, Padmé has returned’ and go on with the rest of the movie,” added Corgi_Koala roasting Palpatine’s return.

“I don't know if anybody has ever watched the original trilogy, but Leia definitely says she can remember her mum. How could she if Padme died in childbirth? The only logical answer is that Padme survived! Somehow,” OrthodoxDreams said.

Honestly, Star Wars is very much all for fan service these days so I could definitely see this happening.

After all, nearly everyone else from the prequels has returned.
