Free-to-play The Division Resurgence gets new Steam release date

Ubisoft is the mind behind a wide variety of beloved IPs, but we’ve been seeing fewer and fewer games from the studio as of late.

That enormous reshuffle in 2025 obviously threw a lot of titles into limbo, with only Assassin’s Creed games being largely unfazed. Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has performed well, and Assassin’s Creed Hexe is seemingly on track for launch next year.

Other franchises like Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon and The Division feel like fading embers, and for the latter, nothing proves that more than the mild reaction to The Division Resurgence coming to Steam.

The Division Resurgence is a free-to-play mobile game that takes place during the events of the first two games.

It was previously only available on mobile devices, but on August 5, it’ll launch on PC via Steam.

The RPG will be playable either solo or in co-operative multiplayer, and crossplay will be supported.

As for gameplay, it’ll be a mix of PvP and PvE, with cover-shooting, looting and general progression being largely the same as the main games.

It’s not a bad release to throw on PC, but it’s not the exciting announcement Division fans have been hoping for. The first game performed really well, and while the sequel was generally less favourable, it still had its fans. The Division 3 is currently in production, but there’s no telling when it’ll launch.

X user Ninjago9101 shared the news about Division Resurgence online and gamers were all saying the same thing.

“Ubisoft is known for stuffing their games with lots of predatory microtransactions," began DirtyOldGamer48. “This includes their single player titles as well.

“This is a free-to-play multiplayer game from them. I'm pretty sure gamers will soon realise that nothing is really 'free' once they start playing it.”

“So we're just porting over mobile games and calling it a day?” added Yuri69344612.

Finally Violet88188 said “people in the comments not realizing that this is a mobile gacha slop game is so funny to read.”

So, not exactly a vote of confidence from those who’ve played/followed the game since its debut on mobile devices.

What else is on the horizon for Ubisoft fans?

We’ve already talked about the next Assassin’s Creed game and The Division 3, but Ubisoft has a few other titles currently in the pipeline.

The Splinter Cell remake is still in production unless the company says otherwise, though development has been painfully slow and there have been numerous switch-ups in the team making it.

Later this year, Rayman Legends Retold will launch on all platforms, which looks good, though some fans are arguing the original looked better.

A new Far Cry game is also in the works, and recently, it was said Ubisoft scrapped its planned extraction-shooter spin-off, which is probably for the best.

Finally, another Ghost Recon game. Not much is known about this one, but we’re always keen to play more Ghost games.

There’s plenty to look forward to on paper; now we just need to see which of these games actually see the light of day given Ubisoft’s track record as of late.
