Baldur's Gate 3 Devs' Divinity Build Hints at Gameplay Change, Job Hint Given

Good news for Baldur's Gate 3 fans

Larian Studios surprised us all by revealing the mysterious monolith built prior to the Game Awards 2025 was related to its brand-new Divinity game.

Following the monumental success of Baldur’s Gate 3, Larian Studios is returning with what could very well be another Game Of The Year contender.

Simply titled Divinity, the new RPG was revealed through a CGI trailer during the Game Awards live show and teased yet another fantasy world in dire need of a hero.

Little else is known about the new game but a recent job listing suggests it’ll take a page out of Baldur’s Gate 3’s book, with turn-based combat.

Larian Studios recently advertised a new opening on the team as it’s on the hunt for a Combat Designer.

In the listing’s description it said the ideal candidate would have "3 years experience in a design position with a solid understanding of how combat encounters work; turn-based experience a plus."

So what can be glean from this? While the older Divinity games were more akin to action-RPGs Larian Studios has fully embraced turn-based gameplay and been rewarded for it.

Just look at Baldur’s Gate 3 and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 winning Game Of The Year, there’s clearly still a huge market for turn-based games. With that in mind of course Larian is going to keep up the trend whilst also putting a fresh spin on its existing IP.

Some are arguing that this Combat Designer is actually for another project currently in the works with Larian, but with Divinity as its next major title that seems unlikely.

The challenge Larian has in my opinion is making sure the next Divinity game feels like Divinity, and not like an extension of Baldur’s Gate 3.

Sure there can be some similarities but it’d be a disservice to the series for it to take too many pages out of the Baldur’s Gate book.

Baldur’s Gate 4?

As for that mysterious second project Larian Studios is said to be working on the obvious speculation would be that it’s Baldur’s Gate 4.

Unfortunately Larian Studios has been pretty clear that it’s not just the Baldur’s Gate company, and a fourth game isn’t something it's particularly interested in for the time being.

In many ways this is good news because it sounds like it could be an entirely new IP, though I’m sure Baldur’s Gate fans will still find themselves disappointed.
