Baldur’s Gate 3 has just released a surprise update, and it’s especially good news for those who were experiencing corrupted saves.
Larian Studios has spent years turning Baldur’s Gate 3 into the game that it is, with dozens of updates and improvements coming in both Early Access and the post-launch.
With Baldur’s Gate 3 being such a massive game, there are bound to be issues that crop up regarding the game’s technical performance, particularly from a progress point of view.
One problem in particular that has plagued players since launch is the corrupted save bug, which seems to happen at random and can prevent you from continuing a playthrough.

If you’re one of the unlucky ones, this issue can completely destroy your entire playthrough by corrupting all of your saves, not allowing you to continue your adventure and forcing you to start over.
Larian addressed these bugs in subsequent patches, but the issue still remained under some circumstances. However, it looks like it might have finally squashed the problem once and for all.
New Baldur's Gate 3 Update Finally Fixes Those Pesky Corrupted Saves
“Bet you thought you’d seen the last of these,” the developer teased on X (formerly Twitter).
“As it turns out, a few crashes and technical issues were still knocking about, so if you were getting stuck while loading saves, or trying to progress from Act 2 into Act 3, your corrupted saves should now be fixed!”
The update is around 100MB on PC or consoles, so it isn’t a big download by any means. Nor does it add any new content, and appears to only be addressing the save issue.
Still, for those who have experienced the save corruption bug, I know how disheartening it can be to lose all that progress. That’s why this patch has made my day.
In terms of new content coming to Baldur’s Gate 3, I think it’s unlikely that anything substantial will come in the future.
Larian has gone on record saying it isn’t interested in doing DLC or a sequel, and it’s now currently deep in development on Divinity, which received a rather interesting trailer at The Game Awards in December.

Still, hopefully that’s the last of the corrupted save bug we’ve seen in Baldur’s Gate 3. At least we can now continue playing without the risk of losing progress when transitioning between different acts of the game.
