Following the news that the upcoming Divinity would be using generative AI in its pre-production phase, Larian Studios head Swen Vincke has been on damage control duty.

Although that seems to have made things even worse.

First announced at The Game Awards 2025 as the night’s worst kept secret, Divinity is the next major game to come from Larian Studios following the success of Baldur’s Gate 3.

However, the hype soon came to an abrupt stop when it was revealed that Larian would be using generative AI to help with various processes in the game’s pre-production stages with it being used to help with concept art, powerpoint presentations, and ideas as a whole.

That being said, in the report by Bloomberg, Vincke assured fans that what will ultimately appear in Divinity will be made by actual humans.

“We’re writing everything ourselves,” he claimed.

However, the damage was done with many fans disappointed that Larian would be using genAI in any part of the production and development.

It can also be claimed that Vincke did not help matters by immediately responding to the backlash, especially with the first line of his response beginning, “Holy f**k guys we’re not "pushing hard" for or replacing concept artists with AI.”

The Damage Control Enters Another Week

All in all, it has been a tough week for Larian and CEO Vincke but it seems as though Larian’s PR have finally stepped up because a new statement was released just last night.

In the brand-new social media post by Vincke, he begins, “It’s been a week since we announced Divinity, our next RPG, and a lot has become lost in translation.”

He goes on to explain that everything they do at Larian is “for the benefit of our teams, games, and players” and as a result, it would be “irresponsible for us not to evaluate new technologies”.

In order to put fan’s worries to rest, Larian will be hosting an ‘Ask Me Anything’ event featuring its various departments in the new year.

During the AMA, fans will be able to ask the team and its developers any questions they have about Divinity and its creative process.

After announcing that the date for the AMA would be announced in the new year, Vincke swiftly left social media, changing his Twitter bio to, “Taking a break. Back in January.”

We can only imagine the damage control that is currently taking place at Larian but hopefully this AMA will put our worries to rest once and for all.

If you ask me, generative AI should have no place in the production or development process of a video game, regardless of what spin you put on it but I, like many others, am happy to give Larian the benefit of the doubt during this upcoming AMA event.
