The Batman Part II isn’t cancelled, and James Gunn is encouraging fans to wait patiently until it’s ready.
While James Gunn’s DCU is ushering in a new age of heroism on the big-screen it hasn’t completely re-written the past, as Matt Reeves Batman universe will continue in its own separate continuity.
There’s talk of Robert Pattinson’s version of the character being the new DCU Batman, and while Gunn has said “never say never” the chances of it actually happening are near-zero apparently.

Speaking with Rolling Stone, Gunn described Batman as his “biggest issue in all of DC right now,” mainly due to the pressure to get him right.
Batman’s debut in the DCU will be the Brave And The Bold film, which will apparently feature a Batman long into his career as a crimefighter with members of the Bat-Family fighting alongside him.
On the topic of his DCU Batman plans Gunn went on to say I’ll also say The Batman Part II is not canceled.
“That’s the other thing I hear all the time – that The Batman Part II is canceled. It’s not canceled. We don’t have a script. Matt’s slow. Let him take his time. Let him do what he’s doing. God, people are mean. Let him do his thing, man.”

A passionate response, but not an unwarranted one as The Batman said ambitious expectations for a sequel so the follow-up should get all the time it needs to be as good as the first film.
We’re still none the wiser on what it could be about, but there are plenty of fan theories out there that it’ll be a Mr Freeze story set at Christmas, or one about the emergence of Killer Croc in a newly flooded Gotham City.
Whatever the plot is, it’s bound to be a banger as long as Matt Reeves gets enough time to cook, so it’s nice to see James Gunn supporting him in such a way.
