There are many actors out there who could easily put on the Batman’s cape and cowl, but only one can be the new DCU’s caped crusader.

I’ll be honest and say I wasn’t a fan of Zack Snyder’s DCEU. Man Of Steel and Wonder Woman were the only two films that I got a kick out of, so when it was announced that it was being replaced with a new universe led by James Gunn I was cautiously optimistic.

So far I’ve been rewarded as the new Superman film looks extraordinary, and it’s comic-accurate costume designs and theming have me excited to see this universe’s version of the Dark Knight.

Fans have been dying to hear who James Gunn wants to play the new Batman and while it doesn’t seem like a name has been selected yet Gunn has commented on who it might, and might not be.

An obvious choice is Robert Pattinson of course. He played the role brilliantly in The Batman, and while progress on The Batman 2 is slow I can’t wait to see what he brings to the character next.

Speaking on whether Pattinson could star as Batman alongside David Corenswet’s Superman, Gunn said “I would never say zero, because you just never know. But it’s not likely. It’s not likely at all.”

Quite disappointing news, but fans are still holding on to the hope that this is just a case of misdirection from Gunn.

“I like the world Matt Reeves is building outside the DCU but I would love to see this happen” said one of them. Maybe some of what he says is a white lie?” added another.

Now personally I don’t think Pattinson’s Batman should appear in the DCU, I think he’s better off in a separate universe as a standalone interpretation.

There’s room for two Batmen, a more grounded version in Matt Reeves’ universe and a more comic-accurate version in James Gunn’s universe, they can co-exist.
