DC fans have raged war against an “imposter” Superman ahead of an upcoming DCU release next month, and no, it’s not Bizarro, sadly.
It’s fair to say that comic book fans are a passionate bunch, and we should know—we have a few on the GAMINGbible team. However, no matter how big a fan you are, there’s always someone else more dedicated to a cause.
One such cause is to ruin the release of James Gunn’s first Superman movie, which stars David Corenswet as the new Man of Steel. From the few trailers I’ve watched, it looks at the very least like Superman should be a fun movie.

That being said, trailers are designed to manipulate us into buying tickets for a cinematic release and as great as some trailers are, that doesn't mean a movie will be a smash hit, and the same could be said for Superman.
Yet, some fans are unwilling to give Superman a chance, and that’s their absolute right. More accurately, it’s some Zack Snyder fans, who let’s say, are a little bit more devoted than most, who plan to ruin Superman at all costs!
Seriously, are these minions of Lex Luthor? Because this feels like the start of a villain origin story. I get it, I’m a big fan of Henry Cavill’s Superman, but this is truly next level.
“Stand up and fight for Snyderverse on July 11,” read an opening statement on a SnyderCut subreddit, highlighting the cinematic release date of Superman. “Fight for our Snyderverse on the imposter Superman release day.”

The post then lists a series of demands that remind me somewhat of a terror cult. Those demands are to “post spoilers everywhere”, to prevent people from wanting to watch the movie.
Review bomb the movie online to counter “Gunbots”, referring to bots writing positive reviews for James Gunn’s Superman. And reserve tickets online (but don’t buy them) to temporarily stop genuine fans from making purchases.
Sounding very much like a jealous ex, it then concludes with “If we can't have our Superman, no one can.”
“It gets to a point,” said a fan on Twitter, lost for words by the aforementioned Reddit post.

“Why y’all acting like Gunn killed the Snyderverse… it had been dead for years before Gunn was even hired by Warner Bros.,” posted DCUSuperboy.
“This is so pathetic,” exclaimed RoyalMaj3sty. “If you don’t support the new Superman movie, just don’t watch the film, but strategically trying to go out of your way to do all this and ruin it for other people is weird.”
At the end of the day, if you don't support the new Superman movie, that is your right. Just like it’s my right not to like a host of other movies. But if there’s a movie that I don’t like the look of, I don’t watch it. Shocking, I know.
Superman releases in cinemas on 11 July 2025.
