An upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 release from CD Projekt RED has come under fire from fans, with some saying the game “looks boring”.

Back in March, CD Projekt RED announced that it was partnering with Lai Games to bring Cyberpunk 2077 to arcades.

Cyberpunk 2077: Turf Wars is an arcade game housed in a large cabinet where you put your shooting skills to the test using a light gun and a big screen.

Turf Wars is described by CD Projekt RED as having “three modes—Story, Co-Op/Versus, and Sniper Mode—players can tackle missions, team up, or test their precision”.

It’s not quite the Cyberpunk 2 we were expecting, but considering the sequel is still years away, we’ll probably have more releases like this in the meantime.

Over on Reddit, fans are slamming Cyberpunk 2077: Turf Wars, with many saying it looks like a generic arcade game.

“I feel like it would be cheaper and way more exciting to develop a lightgun game, at least from my uninformed perspective,” wrote one comment on Reddit. “Haven't played Cyberpunk so there might be some novelty to using these guns but it looks like you could swap out the IP for just about anything without changing much.”

“This looks so boring,” wrote another. “Maybe the other gameplay modes they didn't show are better but this isn't a great way to sell it imo, just looks like generic target practice.”

However, one user who managed to actually play the game recommended it, writing: “I actually just played it today, it was quite fun it had a mix of real physical target shooting with arcade like modes. Granted it has low replayability. I wish it had some sort of story mode but I'd definitely recommend heading to a Dave & Busters if there's one local to you, so you may try it.”

If a machine somehow ends up in one of your local arcades, it might be worth a look to see if you’ll enjoy it.
