Cyberpunk 2077 sequel setting has divided the game's players

Fans are torn on this one

Despite being possibly years and years away, fans of Cyberpunk 2077 are discussing the possible setting for the sequel.

We have no idea when the follow up to Cyberpunk 2077 will drop, but this hasn’t stopped fans discussing a potential setting that will take us away from Night City.

Night City lives and breathes in Cyberpunk 2077

Over on Reddit, a player has posed a theory that the next game will take us to Chicago.

This is sparked by in-game advertisement boards that show travel from Night City to Chicago in three hours.

Key to this theory is the tagline of the advert which says it’s “coming in 2080” causing this fan to wonder if the next game will be called Cyberpunk 2080.

There is no official word on this, it’s purely speculation.

And while it’s a nice idea, it’s contradicted by the Phantom Liberty DLC showcasing other areas like Kenya.

Fans are torn on this idea and are making their voices heard.

“This is just world building through advertising, Night City is the main character of Cyberpunk, I feel like it would be interesting to see other cities within this universe, but it wouldn’t feel the same,” says one Redditor.

Another user agrees, “Maybe as a DLC but, not the main setting. Night City is the main character of Cyberpunk.”

It would seem silly to suddenly shift across the country, especially when the rigours of game design means saving money and time by using Night City again.

Plus there are still stories to tell.

“Moving the story/game out of NC would be a huge mistake,” says Empyrealist.

There are comments tipping the other way, such as this from Gulviq, “What would you want doing to NC to make it feel fresh? I think a new game set in the same city would get boring real quick IMO.”

Another from VirinaB who says, “Night City is basically knock-off LA. Unfortunately, this genre plays LA or Neo Tokyo to death. I would like to see the next game set in any other city.”

We’re going to be a waiting a long time before we hear anything official on this, so buckle in for more speculation in the future.
