With CD Projekt RED’s Project Orion, the highly anticipated sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, yet to even enter full production, it could be a while before it’s time to return to Night City.
You can, however, embark on an exciting new adventure with two of Night City’s finest residents.
Free-to-play open-world RPG Wuthering Waves is collaborating with Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, an anime spin-off of Cyberpunk 2077 that aired on Netflix. It’s excellent, if you haven’t watched it.
The collaboration is due to kick off next month in June although an exact release date hasn’t been pinned down just yet.
Advert
It wouldn’t surprise me if the launch of the update coincided with something like Summer Game Fest; it’s a great marketing opportunity to advertise the collaboration.
In fact, it’s widely assumed that Version 3.4 will roll out on 8 June.
If you don’t know, Wuthering Waves is a free RPG from developer Kuro Games that’s available across PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.
It’s been a while since the crossover was first revealed but Kuro Games has now dropped a snazzy new trailer that should be enough to get any Cyberpunk 2077 fan hyped.
“JUST KNOW THIS GONNA POP OFF,” replied one user.
“I have a feeling you guys have more sauce but are not spilling it,” added another.
“Next leak the gameplay footage. We know you want to do it,” said a comment.
Lucy and Rebecca of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners will be arriving in Wuthering Waves in June as five-star Resonators.
While Wuthering Waves is free, it doesn’t mean all in-game content is. Free-to-play games have to be monetised after all.
By the looks of it, Lucy will be a paid character but Rebecca has been confirmed as being free to claim which is great to see.
Little else has been given in terms of the collaboration’s specific offerings beyond this but, naturally, many are wondering whether Edgerunners protagonist David might make an appearance in his iconic yellow jacket.
As the collaboration is one month away, it might be a good time to dive into Wuthering Waves if you’re not an existing player so you can get a feel for the game’s general mechanics.
“You wake from your slumber as Rover, joined by a vibrant cast of Resonators on a journey to reclaim your lost memories and change the world,” reads the synopsis.
On Steam, Wuthering Waves sits at a respectable score of 89% with a ‘Very Positive’ reception, so it’s definitely proven to be a hit with players.
