If you’re a fan of the RPG games Cyberpunk 2077 and Disco Elysium, then you need to download this free Steam demo ahead of its full launch in August.
When it comes to sci-fi RPGs, it doesn't get much better than CD Projekt RED’s Cyberpunk 2077. An immersive RPG inspired by Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner, where you go from rags to riches in the seedy world of Night City, home to the most sinister criminal scum there ever were. Along with you, of course.
Considering its woeful launch in 2020, it’s amazing how the developers at CDPR have not only risen this game like a phoenix from the ashes, but it’s fair to say that many promises have long overdelivered when it comes to Cyberpunk 2077.
Then we have Disco Elysium, a cult classic indie game where you get to play detective in an enticing noir setting of Revachol, and much like Cyberpunk 2077, it offered players many ways to approach situations, making each playthrough different from the last.
Advert
That all being said, one may be an AAA big hitter and the other an indie darling, but few would deny that Cyberpunk 2077 and Disco Elysium aren't two of the best RPGs in recent years.

Cyberpunk 2077 and Disco Elysium need to check out this new RPG
If you’re a fan of either, then you’re going to want to check out the upcoming indie RPG, Kill the Shadow, developed by Shadowlight. It’s a sci-fi detective RPG with a gorgeous pixel art style.
“Kill the Shadow is a detective game with multiple endings, featuring 2.5D pixel art and semi-open exploration and investigation,” reads the description of the game on Steam. “Play as Lucas, a former police officer, alongside a mysterious Shadow who can see the “past.” Remember—every choice you make will change the fate of countless characters!”
If Kill the Shadow looks like it could be your cup of tea, then you’ll be pleased to know that you can download its free playable demo right now on Steam.
What is the community saying about Kill the Shadow?
While it's too early for reviews, it seems like Kill the Shadow has been receiving early praise from the community far.
“Kill the Shadow was one of my favourite demos of Next Fest, and I highly recommend checking it out,” said The Gamer.
“Hope this game gets more traction. It has a gorgeous art style and interesting gameplay,” commented a hopeful user on YouTube.
“Praying for a console port in future,” pleaded ePai9e.
“Reminds me of ANNO: Mutationem,” added lilsama.
Kill the Shadow is set to be released on Steam on August 5, 2026. At the time of writing, there is no word of a console release, but hopefully that will change sooner rather than later.
Just in case a console announcement is made one day, it might be worth following Shadowlight on its social media channels so you’re ready for when that information drops.
