Steam users can now pick up a popular top-down zombie shooter for free, but you only have a limited time to claim the offer.
Awesome Game Studio has made its 2017 zombie horde top-down shooter Yet Another Zombie Defense HD free to keep on Steam to celebrate announcing a release date for its follow-up game, Yet Another Zombie Survivors.
Yet Another Zombie Defense HD is a top-down zombie game where you build your base by day, and defend it from hordes of the undead by night. Use cash and resources you collect during waves to improve your defences and get stronger.
If you want to check it out, Yet Another Zombie Defense HD is available to download now on Steam for free. Claiming the game on Steam will add it to your library where it will remain forever, so even if you’re not keen on checking it out just yet, you’ll be able to play it later on.

However, the caveat is you’ll need to be pretty quick to claim this free game. The offer only lasts until July 30, at which point it’ll go back to its original pricing of £3.39. Not a huge number by any means, but free is free.
You can pick it up from the Steam Store listing here.

The blurb on Yet Another Zombie Defense HD reads: “Yet Another Zombie Defense HD is all about defending yourself against hordes of darkness attacking you every single night. You know this is a lost cause, enemy forces are overwhelming and sooner or later your time will come. So, if you gonna go, do it with style, and pave yourself through piles of fallen monsters before they squash you! There’s just one thing that matters - how long can YOU survive?”
Yet Another Zombie Defense HD currently has 84% positively rated reviews on Steam, indicating that an average of just over 8 out of 10 people would recommend it.
“Obviously the graphics, UI and mechanics are dated, but it does what it's supposed to,” reads one review from a player who picked up the game with this free offer.
“Honestly, it feels like something I would have played on Kongregate or Armor Games 15-20 years ago. Since it's free, I'm not mad about that,” reads another positive review.
“I got it for free and I had a good time. Reeeally simple game, but it's nice. You might like it for one or two nights with your friends and that's it,” a third review states.
Meanwhile, developer Awesome Games Studio has announced a release date for its spiritual sequel, Yet Another Zombie Survivors. This game takes after the “survivors” genre, which plays more like a Bullet Heaven where the focus is on automation and tactical upgrades.
Yet Another Zombie Survivors was released into Steam Early Access on July 13, 2023, and will be hitting version 1.0 on August 20, 2026.
