Steam users can now pick up an 89% rated story-focused RPG for completely free, but only for a limited time.

The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante has a sequel out tomorrow, and to celebrate the release developer Schisma Games is giving away the first game for free for a limited time.

The game was made free on Steam earlier this week, and continues to be free to claim until July 23 where it will remain yours forever.

All you need to do is simply head to the Steam store page for the game and add it to your library, where it will be available for you to download and play at any time.

“Step into the harsh world of the Blessed Arknian Empire and experience the life of Sir Brante, a man born into a rigid society where every choice matters and every decision carries consequences,” reads the blurb for The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante.

“Shape your destiny through years of struggle, ambition, sacrifice, and suffering in this narrative RPG, where your actions determine not only your own fate but also the fate of those around you.”

Presented like a ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’ gamebook, you make choices in the game which affect your character statistics and relationships with others, which can then open or close other choices which appear throughout the story.

These choices ultimately shape your playthrough, with different endings received based on what you've done throughout the whole game.

The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante has been a well-liked piece of interactive fiction

Originally released in 2021, The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante was received well at launch with critics praising it as a piece of interactive fiction. Over on Metacritic, it has a metascore of 82 based on 14 critic reviews.

On Steam, player reviews give The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante a higher average score of 89% positive, indicating that nearly nine out of ten people would recommend it to another person.

“This game was a wonderful, choices-based... I don't wanna call it a visual novel rpg? But that's what comes to mind. Going through Brante's life(s) and making choices, changing paths, changing relationships, was such a fun time,” reads one Steam review with 7 hours logged in the game.

“Writing this review for all the newcomers to the series. I HIGHLY recommend this game, and I also recommend everyone to avoid spoilers, since one major strenghts of Sir Brante is its writing,” reads another review.

“I like the tension between making choice cause of your wishes and cause of the characteristics you've aimed to achieve,” a third review reads.

Schisma Games announced a sequel, titled The Life and Suffering of Prince Jerian, in 2024. The game plays largely the same as the first one, but with a brand new protagonist and story to follow.

The Life and Suffering of Prince Jerian releases on PC on July 20, 2026.
