CD Projekt RED is in the midst of developing Cyberpunk 2077’s confirmed sequel, codenamed Project Orion.
Given that it won’t become the studio’s leading focus though until after The Witcher IV’s release, we could be waiting a while to see it land.
Worry not though, because an exciting new prequel is set to keep us occupied in the meantime.
This is a prequel you’ll only be able to experience by embarking on a tabletop adventure.

Cyberpunk RED is a popular TTRPG spin-off of the franchise that’s been around since 2020.
Set in the year 2045, it acts as forerunner to Cyberpunk 2077, placing players within the aftermath of the fourth corporate war.
“The 4th Corporate War’s over and the big dogs have retreated to their corners to lick their wounds,” the synopsis reads.
“That leaves everyone else to fend for themselves in a shattered world. And that’s just fine ‘cause you’ve got interface plugs in your wrists, metal in your limbs, and chips in your skull.
“You’re wired in, loaded with chrome, and ready to take it to the Edge. There’s a world full of opportunities out there. Maybe this time you can do more than save yourself. Maybe.”
All of these years on, it’ll now be supported by Night City 2045, a 312-page city sourcebook that fills you in on everything you could possibly want to know about Night City three decades prior to our escapades with V in 2077.
The book is available to pre-order now ahead of its 24 June release or if you’re satisfied with a digital copy, you can secure a PDF version immediately.

The book retails for $30 or £46 if you’re in the UK.
Night City 2045 provides information on “the geography, government, and logistics of Night City, including a complete history, information on citizenship and laws, data on transportation, services, utilities, and media”.
It also has intel on “Night City’s street-level factions, including 44 gangs, six criminal organisations, and 23 security providers” as well as a “district by district breakdown”, covering 24 districts in total, “each with its own unique character”.
“You’ll know who is in charge, who lives there, and what events have happened recently,” the synopsis reads.
There are over 600 locations detailed within its pages, including “stores, clinics, gang headquarters, corporate fortresses, megabuldings and more, all laid out on gorgeous maps so you’ll know exactly where to go the next time you’re out for a drive”.
Finally, there are 99 “stat blocks to help you populate Night City, from gang mooks to criminal enforcers to corporate security”.
Fair to say, one of the Cyberpunk 2077 franchise’s greatest strengths has always been its deep lore, so this is surely a release that fans will eat up regardless of whether you’ve played Cyberpunk RED or not.
For those who are familiar with Cyberpunk RED, I’ll stress that Night City 2045 is very different to the Night City sourcebook which accomanied the original release.
Night City 2045 covers the entirety of Night City as opposed to just the downtown district.
Get your pre-order in now if you want to become Night City’s next budding historian.
