Cyberpunk 2077’s Night City is one of the most recognisable settings in game history, despite the CD Projekt RPG not even celebrating its five-year anniversary yet.
Set in 2077 in a dystopian cityscape, Night City has become a virtual home for many but did you know that there was a way to see the city before it became the place you know and love in 2077?
Well, thanks to one smart Cyberpunk 2077 player, we now can as they managed to find a way to take a before-and-after image of Night City itself.
Throughout the game, players will often be able to head into the past via flashback quests.

These usually see us step into the shoes of Johnny Silverhand who operated in Night City in the early 2000s until his untimely death at the hands of Adam Smasher.
It is in these moments that we are able to learn more about Johnny as well as his friends and confidantes, Kerry and Rogue and it also gives us the opportunity to see more of Night City.
In the mission ‘Never Fade Away’, players will once again take on the role of Johnny Silverhand during the year 2013.
It is a time when Johnny’s career was in full swing and his iconic takedown of Arasaka was in the pipeline but before all of that, he must search for Alt.

However, an opportunity soon arises that many players have seemingly missed: the chance to view Night City as it was back in 2013.
Thanks to user Thenadamgoes on r/cyberpunkgame, a moment in that mission allows you to head to the rooftops and take a look at the cityscape, and of course, this would be the perfect time to snap a photograph.
“Night City 2077 vs 2013,” the user shared, alongside a before-and-after image of Night City from the same spot.
“I took a picture outside the window in the Alt flashback mission which is in 2013.

You can’t get back into the club but I tried to line up the same shot in 2077. Kinda cool to see the changes.”
It is very cool indeed and shows how much detail CDPR put into a vista that many of us would have missed on our first playthroughs.
“I always assumed they were identical because it would be too much effort to modify the map for just a couple flashbacks. This is cool,” user davidfliesplanes commented.
However, another user posted an interesting tidbit of information.

“One thing to note is that Mega buildings should not be there, which is another sign of Johnny and V’s memories mixing. They were built post Night City nuke,” they revealed.
So, when you next dive into Cyberpunk 2077, it is worth paying a bit more attention to your surroundings, especially as CDPR itself has revealed that there are still plenty of interesting details that fans are yet to find…
