Cyberpunk 2077 Rare Open World Event Proves We Still Haven't Seen Everything

To this day, I still have no idea how to trigger this

One Cyberpunk 2077 player has run into a somewhat uncommon event during their playthrough that’s, understandably, very much confused them.

There are a lot of random, hidden events in Cyberpunk 2077, but you’ll probably run into almost all of them throughout the course of a normal playthrough.

However, during my playthroughs, there’s one specific event that I’ve only managed to trigger (if that’s even the right word for it) a single time outside of missions, because CD Projekt RED seemingly made it occur at random.

As detailed in a post on the r/cyberpunkgame subreddit, user AnPetro1304 was lucky enough to run into the same event too… although they appear to be a bit flummoxed by the whole ordeal.

If you’ve run into one of these sandstorms yourself, you might have had the same reaction, because (in my experience) it may just be the rarest weather event in the entire game.

There is one time during the events of the side job Riders on the Storm where a sandstorm can be forced to trigger, but otherwise it seems completely up to chance.

Folks in the comments have their own theories behind the weather phenomenon, including the lore-accurate reason behind why Night City is subjected to them (spoiler alert: it’s in a desert).

“It's a Haboob, Saul talks about them while you're in the trailer house after you break him out from being taken hostage”, commented user darkelfbear.

“I thought it was some glitch due to graphics settings like dlss or fsr or some s**t. Loaded an earlier save it wasn't there. Don't worry, goes away on its own after some time”, replied user Mysterious-Travel344.

“I think it’s supposed to be a mix of sandstorms (haboobs), and radiation storms. In the Time of Red (right after the Nuke in 2020), that kind of weather was normal and pretty much constant”, commented user OderinTobin.

“I think it’s also probably taking some aesthetic inspiration from Bladerunner 2049. They don’t happen often in the game, but it’s a “normal” occurrence.”

The weird thing about the event for me is that the storm that you can trigger during the events of Riders on the Storm doesn’t seem to stick around for long, and I have a distinct memory of it disappearing during a drive to another location.

The ones that spawn naturally, though? The one that I ran into stayed around for a ridiculously long time, and only truly vanished after I slept.

As cool as it looks, I hope I never run into a haboob in real life. Seeing that big, dusty cloud roll towards you sounds terrifying.
